J&D Construction partnered with Prairie Grain Partners, LLC to deliver two massive straight-line grain pile storage systems in Miller, South Dakota. Designed to dramatically expand onsite storage capacity and integrate seamlessly with existing handling infrastructure, this project brings advanced grain management capabilities to one of the area’s key agricultural hubs.

Together, the new North and South pile systems will provide 4.5 million bushels of additional storage, making this one of the region’s most significant grain pile expansions.

Project Highlights

Two Large Oval Straight-Line Grain Piles – Combined 4.5 million bushels of new storage.

New Mobile Tripper Fill Conveyor – Craned into place and engineered to efficiently fill the new pile system.

Aeration Catwalk & Conveyor Support Towers – Installed for improved airflow, grain quality, and operational reliability.

Transfer Conveyor Integration – Links the new grain pile systems with the existing facility for smooth, unified operation.

14’ x 60’ MCC/Generator Building – Built to house electrical and power systems supporting the new infrastructure.

On-Site Progress & Construction Approach

This project demanded careful coordination across earthwork, concrete, structural, and mechanical phases:

Soil Corrections were completed across all 13 tower locations, ensuring a stable foundation for towers, fill equipment, and structural concrete.

Dirtwork Crews prepared the site and shaped the foundation for the large oval storage areas.

Concrete Crews poured the MCC/Generator building footing and began setting the infrastructure needed for tower installation.

Craning Operations placed the mobile tripper conveyor — a key component for filling the new grain piles efficiently.

By combining engineering precision with construction expertise, J&D Construction is delivering a large-scale storage solution built for long-term performance.
